On his last hole the 9th Woods tried to attack the front-right hole location from 114 yards and missed the green to the right. The ball landed in a spectator’s handbag from where Woods was granted a free drop. His chip grazed the stick and stopped six feet from the hole but he pulled the par putt.
“I don’t know” Woods said. “That’s been the frustrating part.” Is this an act of desperation? Has Woods at age 42 lost his putting touch the way many past champions including Tom Watson have in the latter stages of his career?
“We were semi-joking today back at the house that I hit so many good chips that haven’t gone in yet” Woods said. “I’m due to hole one and I finally holed one. That was nice.”
